Alain van Mil has been interviewed by NOQ to discuss about developing heart muscle tissue from biomaterials and stem cells to improve heart function at the site of a heart attack. This brings a cure for heart failure one step closer. One of the challenges is to match the muscle fiber organization of the artificial heart piece with the recipient heart. Van Mil: “With 3D printing, we have found out that an elastic hexagonal structure of the heart tissue patch could be a solution.”
