MDR Colloquium September 2023
During the MDR Colloquium MDR researchers will share their latest findings and outcomes to the rest of the consortium and ISAB members. Every month one junior and one senior researcher will take the floor to show their work and get feedback.
You can join the meeting via the Outlook invitation you received.
In September the MDR Colloquium will take place on the 13th at 16:00h (CET).
During this colloquium we will host 2 MDR researchers:
* IJsbrand Vermue – University Medical Center Utrecht – “Biocompatible polymer scaffold design for renal reabsorbtion unit”
IJsbrand Vermue is a PhD candidate in the group of Caroline Cheng at the department of nephrology and hypertension at the University Medical Centre Utrecht where he is pursuing his research goal of creating an artificial vascularized proximal tubule in vitro using (self-made) tubular scaffolds. His fascination for manipulating cell behaviour using custom culture conditions started during his final internship in his master Biomedical Engineering (Groningen, Netherlands), where he created custom wells to drive primary salivary gland stem cells to acinar differentiation.
* Dr. Ronald van Gaal – Harvard University / Wyss Institute – “A perfusable ureteric bud-on-chip model”
Ronald van Gaal is a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Jennifer Lewis at Harvard University / Wyss Institute. His NWO Rubicon funded research focused on tackling challenges of kidney organoid technology, mainly fluid handling and scaling. Specifically, a perusable uretic bud-on-chip was developed, which in the future can be utilized as an open-ended collecting duct to enable filtrate drainage from kidney organoids. Previously, he obtained his PhD in Biomedical Engineering in the groups of prof. Patricia Dankers and prof Carlijn Bouten at the TU/e. His thesis concentrated on creating in vitro kidney tissue on supramolecular biomaterials for a bio-artificial kidney.
